Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information

Do you accept custom orders?
I am currently accepting custom requests for all of my active listings, but I am booked for custom commissions until September 2021.  What is the difference? You can always customize sizing, colors, or the design for all of my active listings. Commissions are for those of you who have a specific vision in mind - an original, bespoke piece that is designed from scratch. Commissions require a booking, and I work directly with you - virtually - to bring your idea to life. If any scheduled bookings cancel, I will announce the last minute opening on instagram page @knotooshaggy
How do I take care of my items?
Please unpack your order as soon as possible and be sure to be careful when unpacking so that you don’t cut, rip, or pull any loose cords or fringe. Due to the nature of fiber art, items can sometimes get a bit wrinkled, and if your item has fringe, it can become tangled. I will always include extra cotton rope when applicable so that you can hang/mount your piece just the way you’d like. If you purchased an item that has fringe, I will include a comb for maintenance. If your item is wrinkled, have no fear! Our dear friend gravity will settle the cotton naturally once it is hanging. If your item has any fringe, carefully lay the work on a flat surface, and gently comb the tangled string starting at the ends and working your way to the base. Depending on your environment, your items may collect dust over time. You can hang your piece outside or give it a shake to remove any dust particles. If you purchased a set of place mats or coasters, stains can happen! I would not recommend using machine wash on any of my work, spot clean only.
What kind of materials do you use?
- Variations of 100% recycled cotton cord that is certified Standard 100  by OEKOTEX . OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 guarantees that the tested and certified cotton cord does not contain any harmful substances that are a danger to human health and environment. This includes requirements for baby and pet articles.
- Locally foraged branches and drift wood
- Wooden beads which are ethically harvested under strict laws in the Philippines. The beads are made from fallen branches and live branch cuttings from pruning.
-Weavings will have a variety of textiles and may inlcuding 100% recycled cotton, Merino wool roving,  vegan biodegradable roving (bio-nylon), silk, sari silk, and chiffon ribbon.
Where do you source your textiles?
My vendor produces the textiles in a small factory in Poland and they pass their production waste to local zero-waste initiatives. They do not use water or toxic chemicals in the process of production and even the colored textiles are dye free!
How are the colored threads made without the usage of dyes?
The textiles are primarly cut into smaller pieces,  then shredded until a sort of dust is received. At this stage the color is created – the shredded cotton in various colors is mixed in specific proportions in order to receive the desired shade. The fibers are then spinned into thread and voila! Because of how the production process is designed, different batches of one color may differ from one another.
What is OEKO-TEX?
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is the world's leading organic label for textiles to determine if they contain harmful substances. This product meets the requirements of Annex XVII of REACH (including the use of ado dyes, nickel, etc.)  as well as it meets the American requirements for the total content of lead in children's articles. The cotton cord used in my work was received the Oeko-Tex Certificate Standard 100 in first class. It means that the textiles are tested at every production level and do not contain any substances that are harmful for your health. They may be safely used in products for toddlers and people with allergies. The granted certificate guarantees that the products labeld with it are free from harmful substances e.g. pesticides, chlorophenols, formaldehyde, allergenic dyes, forbidden azo dyes and extractable heavy metals.

In the unlikely event that your order is lost or damaged, an exchange or refund may be possible. Please contact me within 2 days of receiving your purchase with clear images of both the item as well as the packaging, plus a description of the damage. Before a refund is possible, the defective product must be returned in its original condition and packaging. Color variation will not be considered an acceptable reason for a refund or exchange. Great care is taken to accurately describe the design and slight color variations may occur due to differences in monitor settings. Note: Some minor snags and imperfections in the string are to be expected and are, as always, an unavoidable part of the process in creating natural spun fiber. These imperfections are kept as minimal as possible by my supplier and will not be accepted as a reason for a refund or exchange.
